Charities and Governance

The various educational bodies that we deal with have an extremely diverse history and this has given rise to a large amount of work in advising both governing bodies and bursars in respect of their rights and obligations in a rapidly changing legal and cultural environment. This is expected to increase with the advent of both the Companies Act and Charities Act 2006.

We are often called upon to assist in planning and implementing restructuring exercises relating to Charitable bodies. This has seen a significant increase in the use of charities incorporated under the Companies Acts and as the Charities Act takes effect is expected to see the increased reliance on the use of the new Charitable Incorporated Organisation when legislation is in place to allow this.

The clarity of our approach is manifested in the number of presentations which we give to governing bodies. Their popularity has increased markedly and we now run several of these extremely successful sessions each year. These can be tailored to fit individual schools but have also been delivered on a national basis to the ISBA.
