Increase on Limits for Employment Tribunal Awards - February 08

The new limits for compensation awarded by the Employment Tribunals have been released and are as follows:

• The maximum compensatory award that a Tribunal can award for unfair dismissal has been increased from £60,600 to £63,000.

• A week’s pay for the purpose of the basic award and the maximum weekly pay in calculating a redundancy payment has been increased from £310 to £330 per week.

• The maximum statutory redundancy payment or basic award for unfair dismissal is now £9,900 (subject to the age of the employee and their length of service).

These new limits apply to dismissals occurring on or after 1 February 2008.  These limits do not apply to successful claims of discrimination where the compensation remains uncapped.
